This week we went out with New Zealand fly fishing guide Johnny Gummer to a lovely back country river. It was a truly amazing experience, great fishing, great food, great company. My wife and I caught 5 excellent trout, both rainbows and browns and missed several more. My wife who is still learning to fish came ahead leaps and bounds under Johnny's patient tuition. Despite being 45 years younger than us there was great rapport on the water and Johnny inspired us to walk further and fish harder than we ever had before. You know you have a dedicated guide when he continuously battles the strong current to check out every likely reach on the far bank!
