~ Your specialist in remote camp-out & helicopter expeditions ~

"I was extremely blessed not only by the fish and scenery but Johnny’s guidance as well. We hiked over 12 kilometers of streams in 4 days camping along the way. I couldn’t possibly envision a better experience and highly recommend his services!"

Altitude FlyFishing NZ is Nestled between 200,000 odd hectares of wild and remote mountain ranges with a extensive network of world class backcountry river real estate - a true paradise for the adventurous dry fly angler....

To Johnny, these places are Tapu (sacred) and his 'Tūrangawaewae'

Translated from Maori language 'They are a place to stand, a place of particular importance and empowerment where we feel most connected and a foundational place where we belong'

The headwater fisheries unique to this part of New Zealand are so isolated and rugged that any foot access to these rivers is so challenging that they seldom frequent anglers if any at all. Utilising helicopters opens up opportunity to fish these places while significantly maximising your limited fishing time when here. We fly with experienced mountain pilots predominately flying MD/Hughes 500s and Notar helicopters, known for their legendary safety, small landing footprint and power in NZ conditions.

There's a distinct magic sleeping within the New Zealand wilderness in high quality comfortable tents or backcountry huts alongside the river valleys. These huts are little havens for the backcountry fly fisher after an invigorating day in somewhat physically demanding wilderness trout country.

Johnny takes care of the camp-out gear, superb backcountry food and meals without the demands of a heavy load on your back.

Your safety is the number one priority.

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) , satellite communicator and a comprehensive first aid kit are carried at all times.

A full day includes guiding, 4WD vehicle transport pick-up/drop-off at your local accomodation, wader/boot hire

stream-side lunch, snacks and refreshments. An additional campout fee on top of the daily guide rate is applied per night of stay.

If you require wader and boot hire I stock a full size range of quality breathable waders and good sturdy, supportive wading boots.
