Manawatu Fly Fishing Guide

 FLY FISHING INSTRUCTION

SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS!

Want to improve your chance of success as an angler?
Always wanted to lift your angling game?
Never fly-fished before and not sure where to start?
I'm here to help!
This is my passion and speciality.
Your success on the water is all about managing the controllable and dealing with the ones you cant. Fly fishing presents many challenges to us as anglers, and New Zealand is no exception to this. Often adverse weather conditions, gin-clear water with some of the world's most spooky trout, combined with constant human pressure we have to evaluate our angling skill-set and seek improvement to overcome those challenges.
With nearly 10 years in competitive fly fishing , representing New Zealand at a World Championship level and being an IFFF Certified Casting Instructor, I have the technical, analytical, and relatable teaching skills to help you improve your overall skill-set as an angler.

EUROPEAN STYLE NYMPHING

Learn or Advance your skillset

Czech, French, Spanish, short-line, high-sticking or contact nymphing are all commonly known terms under the 'Euro-style nymph technique'.

For those wishing to take their Euro-style techniques to a whole new level, this is something I specialise in.

There are many anglers employing this technique in their daily fishing. In certain types of water, the European style is incredibly effective. Often considered an easy technique by those with little experience. Yes, you may catch fish quite easily by yourself but this is only the beginning of your  Euro nymphing repertoire. There are countless subtleties that I show you to help to take your Euro nymph fishing skill-set exponentially to a whole new altitude.

  • European nymph specific gear and rigging

  • Confidence flies

  •  Casting technique

  •  Style adaptation to water type variation

  • Vertical, horizontal, coil and dry fly sighter presentations

  • Presentation angle variation

  • Fly presentation

  • Strike detection

  • Animation techniques commonly known as ‘induced take techniques'
